Shootin' Good Time

It was another beautiful spring day today.

We got our pellet guns and went for a walk.

 I don't have a pellet gun so I make everyone else share!

I did bring my camera for some "shooting" of my own. ;)

Connor insisted on trying daddy's big Silent Cat.

He quickly learned how much of a recoil this had compared to his small gun.

Still using daddy's gun... it sticks out from under his armpit!

This is Nolan.

It's about the only time I got him to stand still long enough for a picture.

He did use his own a few times.

We eventually had some target practice on an old, rusted coffee can.

Another target: cattails.

I'm not sure who's shot this was.

Nolan made several hits in a row.

I hit it on my second try.

We had a great time shooting stuff

and we saw our first turtle of the spring!

More Quilts

My mom gave me a couple of quilts while on my last visit.

They are just beautiful.

My great-grandmother made them.

 This pink and white one I will be passing along to my cousin.

I have taken careful measurements so I can have the pattern.

I assured the boys it would not be pink!

I discovered the quilting in this quilt is a diagonal stripe that appears to be a thumb-width apart.

Who needs tape or a marker to measure out the distance?

These quilts have me a little excited to start on my own quilting journey.

I have no idea what I'm doing!

I have big quilt shoes to fill.

The second quilt was my grandmother's wedding quilt.

The colored pieces are made from her dresses when she was a little girl.

My great-grandmother and my grandma along with her sister all worked on this together.

I love the colors.

I can just imagine my grandma playing in those colorful dresses as a little girl.

Tiny delicate stitches.

Oh Look A Quilt Backing

I've made a little progress on Nolan's quilt.

I finished the quilt backing over the weekend.

It would have been done sooner but I apparently

needed to get the sinus sickness a second time.

So the pieces laid on the floor for a week...

I wasn't about to fold them after I pressed them!

Nolan wanted some wildlife material for the backing.

The faces on some of the animals make me laugh.

The moose looks ornery,

the bear looks like he woke up too early,

and they nailed the deer in headlight look.
