Vacation: Camping at Walton

The cool iron bridge going over the Ohio River.

For this vacation we actually camped more nights than not.
That was a first for us and it was a lot of fun.
We camped two nights on the way down.
The first night we stayed at Oak Creek Campground in Walton, KY.

While we have a list of good campgrounds we've used, we're always looking to add to it.
We know of some we will definitely not camp at again.
This was our first time staying at this campground.
It had lots of shade which is a plus when you're in a tent.

We got cots for this trip.
We've used air mattresses for years but they take up a lot of space.
Yes, that's a bunked cot for the boys. How cool is that?
They worked out really well.

After we set up the tent the boys and I went swimming.

Definitely a nice way to cool off!

Fine camp cuisine.

More luxurious eating.
In case you're wondering... it's a bugle filled with spray cheese.
Something only a teenager would come up with.

I brought my hand pieced sewing project with me.
I only got it out twice so not much got done.

Beautiful tree canopy above our campsite.

There was a creek beside our tent!
We always love that.

Of course we had to explore the creek!

It was full of crawdads.
We tried and tried to catch one.
They were too skilled at hiding...
or it might be that we were not quick enough!

We enjoyed this campground and will definitely add it to the list of good places to stay.
The bathrooms were clean and the staff was friendly.

In the morning we packed everything up and headed to our next campground.

A Much Needed Vacation

We are back from our much needed vacation.

We were gone nine nights and ten days.
It had been three years since we were gone that long...
and boy did we need it!

It was an awesome vacation with many adventures.
Camping, shopping, hiking, swimming, ice skating, and the list goes on.
I'm sure I'll remember more as I go through the pictures.

It will take several days to go through ten days' worth of adventures and their photos.
I will eventually make lots of vacation posts with an equal amount of photos.
For now this teaser will have to suffice until I have more time to devote to writing posts.

We love the mountains and wish we could bring them home.
We did bring one mountain home... Mount Washmore!

This and That

Not much going on around here.
The boys are done with school now and we're prepping for vacation.
We seemed to have skipped spring. Our weather has turned hot.
Really hot...like August hot complete with high humidity.

The random things going on around here:

Pepper waiting for me to come home from walking to my neighbors.. AKA the in-laws.

I finished this quilt top I've been working on.
It was part of a sew along I did.
I'm thinking of adding another border to it to make it fit a full size bed.
That will wait until after vacation.
I'd love to do it now but I've got work to do!

We set up the tent for a practice run.
We also wanted to see how our new cots will fit.
It will be interesting.

I finally spent the last of my birthday money and got some precut fabrics.
I picked out the three smaller bundles but the rest was from a surprise package.
I thought that would stretch my fabric comfort zone. :)

I reinforced the end seam on a flag for my father-in-law.
I felt like Betsy Ross!

Dwayne and I came across this painted turtle in the pasture on one of our walks.
We relocated him to the nearest ditch.

Sadly our Pekin hen, the one on the right, died this week.
We're not exactly sure what happened.
So now our drake is a bachelor.
