Graduation Sunday

A little note before proceeding to the rest of this post:
Blogger has updated it's program... so bear with me until I figure out how things work.
Sorry for the atrocious formatting. Ugh.

It has once again been a while since I made a post.
Still not much going on around here.
We’ve been waiting for things to happen…
Which finally happened Sunday, May 31st.

We were waiting and waiting for graduation Sunday.
About a week and a half before graduation, we attended the filming of Nolan’s portion of the ceremony.
It was us and two other students along with their families… ok limited to 4 guests but you get the point.

We may or may not have requested for Nolan and his best friend to be together for graduation.

They went through most of the motions of graduation.
Pomp & circumstance, the Pledge of Allegiance, faculty speeches, etc.
Everything except for the valedictorian & salutatorian speeches.

They did this SIXTEEN times.

Wow.

Nolan with his best friend, Josh.

Silly boys.

The school pieced together all the filmed sessions and made it into one cohesive graduation ceremony that “premiered” on graduation Sunday.

It was very strange for the four of us to gather in the living room to watch Nolan’s graduation ceremony on our own TV via YouTube. (We ate lunch while watching because we were pressed for time.)

I even took a photo or two. After all it’s not every day that ¼ of your senior year is just cancelled leaving you with a virtual graduation.

In reality our little viewing was somewhat historical in and of itself.
As soon as the ceremony was done we had to leave for an open house and then a parade.
Yes, a parade.

Because the seniors missed out on so much of the “normal” senior things that happen at the end of the school year, many schools decided to have parades.

Tri-County thought this was a good idea too. We found out a few days before that the principal wanted to surprise the students with classic cars for them to ride in.

I cannot tell you how much of an awesome idea this was! That made it really special. They even got to choose which car they wanted to ride! Nolan was beyond excited as he loves classic cars. He says today’s cars do not have character like the older ones do.

Nolan rode in a 1966 Galaxie 500 convertible. Did I say he was excited? He had the time of his life. He said his driver (he can’t remember her name) was awesome and played great music. It was her idea for him to ride in the back seat, “like a homecoming king.” To which he chuckled and told her he was the homecoming king.

He graduated 10th in his class!

While it felt like it took forever to get to graduation Sunday it turned out quite nice.
It may not have been a normal graduation but it certainly was memorable!

We're so proud of Nolan's accomplishments in high school.

He did a super job.
