Christmas Quilts

Christmas quilts!

They do not have a Christmas theme but were gifts.

This idea sort of started back in the summer.

I came across this panel while on vacation and knew my mom would love the birds.
I just had no idea what I was going to make.

My mom hangs small banners on the door to her room.
I thought I could make some.
So I took some measurements and got busy sewing.

I just happened to have some dark brown fabric I found at the thrift store.
It made a great binding for the birds.

Not wanting to stop with birds, I found some jazzy snowmen!
I made the two on the right for practice and the two on the left for mom.
(I ended up sending the two on the right to some friends who used to play those instruments.)

This was such a fun and quick little project!
It was my first time making hanging pockets.
I love learning knew quilty things.

I counted each one as a little quilt.
That makes my quilt count come to 35.

I completely forgot to measure these when I was done.
I think the snowmen are around 12" square and the birds are about 9" x 15".

Here's one of them on mom's door.
I think I might have to make more in the future.

Our Christmas

A little snippet of our Christmas.
Dwayne and I enjoyed two days off of work.

We celebrated over several days and places.

These photos are in no particular order...

Squirrel at mom's place.

The boys got their grandpa a record player.
Which lead to these piles and piles of records.

Dwayne and Connor got fire starters.
It's a sparking good time.

This one LOVES band-aids.
We have no idea why.

Every author needs an emotional would thesaurus.

Spectacular Christmas morning sunrise.

We had our traditional Christmas morning cinnamon rolls.
We also did our traditional reading of the birth of our Savior from Luke.

I think we got all of our Christmases done in one week.
I'm not sure that's ever happened before.
It seems like someone is always sick.
Overall it was a nice Christmas.
Very relaxing.

Christmas Photos

Every year we have an ornament made with the boys picture on it.
We've done this since they were little.
It's cool to put all of those ornaments on the tree and watch them grow up.

Admittedly, they've grown too fast.
It's hard to believe we're halfway through Nolan's senior year.
We just ordered his cap and gown!

Back to the photos...
Sometimes we bring Pepper in to try to get a photo with her too.
She wasn't too cooperative.
This is the best we got.

Our silly dog just wanted to lay down and be pet.
She's not spoiled in the least.

Some of the silly pics...

You have to let them do "silly" so you can get the "serious" photos.

Then there's the giggling and tree poking...

More giggling.

I found the portrait selection on my phone's camera and finally got a better shot.

Someday I'm going to get an honest to goodness real camera.
Then I'll really let my inner photo bug out!

This is the latest we've ever put up our tree.
We normally do it the Friday after Thanksgiving.
I had just finished my three months of shop training and was pretty tired that weekend.
Those ten hour days wiped me out!
I'm so thankful to be back in the office with regular hours.

This year I remembered to try my gum wrapper chain as the garland for the tree.
It makes a unique garland!
