Vacation Part 2 - Travelling

I learned some hard lessons on this trip.
They were learned in the first thirty minutes of leaving the house.
That's when I realized we I had forgotten a few things.
Important things.
Important things like two air mattresses and the rainfly.
Did I mention we were tent camping?
Did I mention that there was a possibility of rain?
We reluctantly turned around to get them.
This added an hour to our trip.
It meant we would arrive at our destination after sunset.
(By the way, here's what I learned:
1. Don't do school the morning of the day you're leaving for
vacation and haven't finished packing yet.
2. Never, ever deviate from your packing list.)
~
So our much needed vacation quickly (and temporarily) turned sour.
Besides the hour long detour, we had a child battling car sickness.
On a good note, we made excellent travel time once we left the second time!
We did indeed put up the tent in the dark...
or should I say van headlights and flashlights.
It was warm, muggy, and we were all tired.
You can use your imagination on how our first evening went.

The next morning was much better.
This was the view from our campsite.
We stayed at Three Springs Campgound in Corinth, Kentucky.
We joked about being Corinthians for the night.
It was very pretty.

We learned that the campground has some unique history.
It was used as a camping area during the Civil War.

(And yes, it did rain but thankfully we had the rainfly!)

I forgot to get a tent picture before we took it down.
These ducks wandered the campground.

The other campsites next to ours.
One thing we love about camping in the "off" season...
we get the campground to ourselves.
It's good not to have neighbors when you're setting up a tent in the dark!

Our stop at Clinch Mountain.
We learned that Dwayne's uncle's house is around 50 feet shy of this lookout elevation.
How's that for perspective?

Every year we make this stop and take pictures.
Every year the boys call Grandma and Grandpa Schultz from here.
It's a family tradition we try hard not to miss!

We were on the road again after our brief stop at Clinch Mountain.

Smile!
I had a little fun with the camera in the back seat.
