We did something completely different for our family vacation this year.
We camped and toured through parts of Ohio.
Our first stop on vacation was at Sauder Village in northwest Ohio.
It's a large historic village. We didn't get to see all of it, but it was really neat.
There was a museum inside the village.
It showed the progression of some of our modern conveniences.
We had fun in the agricultural section because we saw a lot of things that are still here on the farm!
This corner was dedicated to baby things.
The stroller in the middle was not only wooden but it folded down!
It looks like a death trap to me!
I loved the progression of the bathtub.
There were several metal tubs without water connections.
Wonder how long it took to fill one of these?
How many trips with a bucket?!
The kitchen section was fascinating as well.
This is an early version of a slow cooker.
This made me chuckle.
Seriously? Use my dog to churn butter?
Turn the cooking spit?
The only way our lab-mix dogs would ever run on this contraption
is if it had either a small animal at the front or a bowl of food!
Further more, if our dogs were supposed to be turning
the cooking spit, they would be tempted to eat the food
they were supposed to be turning!
This was the paper cutting machine in the printer's shop.
It was well over 100 years old and they still use it.
This was the glass blower's shop.
He was using his scraps from other projects to make marbles.
He heated the marble chunk until it was how he wanted it
and then put it in this machine to finish rolling it.
It was pretty fascinating to watch.
We also stopped at the little church building that had an organ that was ran
by foot power... that's two extra pedals!
We spent some time at the one room school house and
learned what school was like in the early 1900's.
