It's a Boy!

Twelve years ago today we had our first child.
We didn't know what we were having until the doctor said, "It's a boy!"
He's grown into quite the young man.
He wasn't excited about his birthday or anything... ;)
As you can see we went all out on the wrapping this year.
Actually, Amazon boxes are quite popular in the house.

Why is there a picture of a generator on Nolan's birthday post?
We had no power.
We had no power for over 13 hours.

The day before Nolan's birthday he helped me make an ice cream cake.
I hadn't made one in years and thought we'd try it since Connor can eat ice cream now.
It turned out really well... until the power went out.
It went out the night before because of the storms.
We figured it would come back sometime during the night.
We woke up in the morning still without power and
my first thought was of Nolan's cake.
I feared there would be a cake puddle in my freezer!
The face, a Minecraft creeper, is supposed to have square edges.
It had square edges until it softened a little.
So we hooked up the generator to cool down the freezers.

Eventually our power came back sometime in the early afternoon.
The cake still tasted great even though it looked a little odd.
I suppose you could say we had a droopy creeper cake.
